Senators Write to President to Save Medicaid from Chopping Block
Senator Jay Rockefeller (WV) and 40 other Senators sent a letter June 9, 2011 to President Obama stating their opposition to block grant, cap, or otherwise eliminate or slash Medicaid coverage for our nation’s most vulnerable citizens, which includes people with disabilities. According to a poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation from May, most Americans oppose the idea of converting Medicaid to block grant financing to reduce the federal deficit. About half of Americans say they or a friend or family member has received Medicaid assistance at some point, and a similar share say the program is important to their family.
AAPD encourages you to take the Senators' letter and use it as the basis for your own letter to the President. Tell him how important Medicaid is to you or a family member or a friend. Be sure to include your address in your letter to the President and mark on the envelope "Medicaid and people with disabilities." You can also contact the White House via the online form at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact
Let the Prez know your thoughts on Medicaid for people with disabilities!
