Though AAPD is the largest disability agency in the nation, it does not support natuonal paratranist organizing or support efforts to organie paratransit riders. Why? IMPRUVE (Independent Movement of Paratransit Riders for Unity, Vehicles, Equality) and National Paratransit Peoples' Movement Assembly want to know. AAPD never returned our calls, responded to emails or supported organizing against DC's paratransit fares--highest in the nation, or supported call by 2016 for a rider-owned Green paratransit with affordable fares, employment for persosn who are disabeld, etc., as an alternative to government-run paratransit.
