Youth Transitions Fellowship (YTF)
The HSC Foundation, in partnership with the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), is now accepting applications for a paid fellowship position with the organizations’ disability youth transition and collaboration work. This fellowship is ideal for a person with a disability who has an interest in building coalitions and running youth based programs. The fellowship starts in April, 2011, and continuing for 12 months. Under the supervision of AAPD’s Director of Programs, the Youth Transitions Fellow (YTF) will gain exposure to youth programs serving people with disabilities and will have the opportunity to facilitate collaboration among youth organizations and internship programs based in the Greater Washington, DC area. Specifically, the YTF will work closely with the Greater Washington Internship Coalition and will help establish the Youth Training Collaborative.
Greater Washington Internship Coalition: The YTF will facilitate collaboration with the Greater Washington Internship Coalition, which is a group of internship programs serving young people with disabilities based in the Greater Washington, DC area. The YTF will be responsible for developing innovative ways for the Coalition to work together to enhance the experience of interns with disabilities. The YTF will assist internship programs with branding, dissemination and development of materials, and enhancement of the experience of program participants.
Youth Training Collaborative: The YTF will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the Youth Training Collaborative, a collection of youth disability organizations supporting each other as they build skills that will aid their transition to the world of work. The Youth Training Collaborative will work closely with The HSC Foundation’s National Youth Transitions Center (NYTC), a collaborative learning community to benefit youth with disabilities and returning veterans.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to facilitate collaboration among large groups
- Strong oral communication skills and strong organizational skills
- Creative and innovative personality
- Familiarity with technology and social networking tools
- Basic working knowledge of IT required
- BA Required
- Strong interest in youth transition for people with disabilities and organizing.
- This fellowship is restricted to those individuals with a disability.
