From the National Coalition of Mental Health Consumer/Survivor Organizations (1/6/10):
TAKE ACTION - HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD - Labor Department Hosts Sessions on Disability Employment
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) is hosting a series of listening sessions across the country on employment for people with disabilities. Each session is an opportunity for members of the public to tell senior federal officials their ideas for more effective ways to employ women, veterans and minorities with disabilities and to share examples of what currently works in their regions to increase employment of people with disabilities. ODEP seeks input particularly from: individuals and consumers: youth and adults with disabilities, parents and caregivers; employers, both public and private; employment services and partners, including Independent Living Centers, One-Stops and State Vocational Rehabilitation Programs.
Register at: https://www.disabilitylisteningtour.com/.
Upcoming listening sessions, include:
Chicago, IL; Tuesday, February 11, 2010
San Francisco, CA; Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Atlanta, GA; Wednesday, February 24, 2010
Boston, MA; Wednesday, March 3, 2010
Your' post- "Upcoming Disability Employment Listening Sessions", names women, veterans and minorities with disabilities. Why? Why leave out some with Disabilities? Just because some are Not 'women', 'veterans', or 'minorities', should Not mean the others are Left-Out!? That is the Same Discrimination, that We ALL have been facing for so long. Any One DISABLED, should be included. - The way this is worded, means that Disabled 'White, non-Women, non-Veterans, are Left-Out!? If, Not Women, Not Veterans, Not Minorities,- then who, or what, are YOU? Already the height of DISCRIMINATION! If this is what the Dept-of-Labor, and AAPD / 'Justice-for-All' is about,- then O'K, - leave the White, non-Woman, non-Veteran Males OUT!! - And as far as State Voc Re-Habs go,- if they are like Ohio RSC-BVR, then forget having any hope for real CHOICE, for needed services, training and/or education. At the Ohio BVR,- their' policy is "dont-rock-the-boat",- if you want an IPE-(individual plan for employment), then each Client must agree to the IPE created / written, by the Counselors, or NO-GO. And once signed, it means that the so-called IPE, not of the Clients Choice, will be, never the less, prsented as of the Client's Creation, but, is really NOT!? - "NO CHOICE", again Discrimination to the Max! And at Ohio BVR,-the Administrators, and Counselors 'run-the-show'. They also police and oversee themselves. - How the other State BVR's operate, I dont know. -- Hopefully President OBAMA will have more insight and over-all oversight of these State BVR's, whom declare- "We know what is best for the Disabled Client",- so "Don't Rock the Boat". --- jward52
