Yes indeed. Attitudes of society severely limit the abilities and functional performance of people with disabilities. Low expectations from individuals with disabilities coupled with ignorance of how assistive technologies can change lives and make many individuals with disabilities very productive and efficient are perhaps the biggest impediments or disabling factors that We in the disabled community need to overcome on a daily basis. Most ordinary folks (without disability) think people with disabilities are ignorant, unable to communicate, do anything independently and lack intelligence.
So it is the environment (societal, physical,technological and online) around us that are truly disabling. These barriers need to be removed.
We at Deque Systems, VA do just that: help government and companies make their websites and software applications accessible to people with disabilities.
